Botox®
What is it?
- Botox® is a neuromuscular blocking agent.
Why use it?
- Repeated muscle activity causes some facial lines and wrinkles. By removing the muscle activity, Botox® reduces and in many cases eliminates dynamic wrinkle lines. The effect is not permanent since your body regenerates new nerve-muscle connections.
- It is an excellent choice to treat the area between the eyebrows (glabella), the forehead, crow's feet, "bunny lines", and cobblestone chin.
What to expect:
- Botox® is injected using very fine needles.
- There is virtually no down time.
- Effects will fade in 3 to 4 months. Many clients who faithfully repeat treatments find they can go longer periods of time before needing treatments.
Who should not use Botox®:
- If you are pregnant, nursing or planning pregnancy within 5 months of Botox® injection.
- If you are allergic to botulinum toxin, alcohol or if you have a history of multiple, life-threatening allergic reactions to drugs or other substances.
- If you are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics, anticholinergics, muscle relaxants, or drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission.
- Have a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
